I spent some time putting together a charcuterie plate this week for a friend’s bridal shower. As I started to look at what my options were, it made me really miss Eataly in Chicago.
I had not heard about Eataly until a few weeks prior to my trip to Chicago. I did a little research before my visit, but it didn’t prepare me for what I was about to walk into. The concept is simple, it’s a wonderful source of artisan products from Italy. The first level offers fresh produce and a wonderful collection of dessert options.
The second level is the eye-opener. The entire floor is open, so you can see all the different options: bakery, deli, butcher, dairy, dry and fresh pasta sections, specialty baked goods, olive oils and fresh coffee. There’s a fabulous little wine bar in the middle so that you can grab a glass of wine as you peruse through the different restaurant options.
We had an opportunity to have lunch there. You can never go wrong with a margherita pizza and a pasta dish is always a must.
My favorite thing from Eataly was this roast beef sandwich…
Freshly carved from their meat carving station with a fresh baguette that is sourced from their bakery, I still dream of this sandwich today.
This is definitely a recommended spot if you have a chance to visit Chicago. I personally cannot wait to go back.
