I went searching for myself earlier this year and found myself in NY. I found myself doing things that I don’t normally do. One of those things was to order a cocktail at the bar.
I had the luxury to stay at The Standard Highline for this visit to NY and was urged by a friend to visit the Boom Boom Room. Located at the top of The Standard Hotel, this amazing bar and lounge has the best view of the Manhattan Skyline. Reservations are available from 4pm-8pm. After 9pm, the lounge becomes invitation only.
I decided to go on my own. It wasn’t a super bold move considering my room was right downstairs. Once you get off the elevator bank, you head towards host station. You’ll either check in or just tell them you’re here for the bar and they’ll direct you to the large double doors to the lounge.
The Boom Boom Room is beautiful. It gave me this “old Hollywood” vibe with the wood features and silver textured ceiling. All the reserved seating in the lounge has an incredible view of the Manhattan Skyline. There are two sections of the lounge that incorporate a fireplace and behind the bar, there’s a small hallway that leads to a passageway for photos outside of the building. (I didn’t go outside. There was a snow storm earlier that day and it was freezing.)
I had one drink. I don’t remember the name of it, but the bartender and I had a thorough conversation about likes and dislikes and this is what I ended up with.
It had rum in it and it was really good. Unfortunately, I still couldn’t help but make my “I’m drinking alcohol” face. The cocktails are roughly $25+, but totally worth it to sit and have a drink while watching the sun set.
It was a really relaxing experience and I recommend taking a trip up there if you happen to be in Chelsea. With that said… Here’s to trying something new this week. Cheers!
